

Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee. She was born on August 24, 1928 to
Henry and Ethel Howard in Derma, Mississippi. At that time, she was the eighth child. She had
five sisters, Gladys, Amy, Corrine, Virginia and Eva and two brothers, Cecil and Grady. After
she was born, she was blessed with another sister, Frankie and brother, Stanton. She grew up in
Derma and upon graduation attended Wood Junior College where she was voted Miss Wood
Junior. Ruth then married Billy Frank Herring in October, 1951. They had four daughters,
Barbara Jean, Janet Kathryn, Judith Anne and Billie Jane. After the death of her husband Billy in
1966, she went back to school and received a secretarial certificate. She then went to work at
White Station Church of Christ. She later moved to the Registrar’s Office at Harding Graduate
School of Religion where she remained until she retired at the age of 75. She was a faithful
member of the White Station Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and Vacation
Bible School. She enjoyed bowling and playing Canasta and Bunko with the White Station
wives. She enjoyed going to the exercise classes and luncheons at the church. She also enjoyed
crossword puzzles and reading. She was survived by her daughters, Barbara, Kathy, Judy and
Billie and son-in-law, Jeff, as well as four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was
also survived by her brother, Stanton.
