Geraldine was born March 20, 1933, in Scotts Hill, Tennessee. She was married to her loving husband, the late J.D. Blankenship, for 55 years. She was a longtime member of Mullins Station Baptist Church where she was affectionately known as “Mrs. B” by the families of babies and children she rocked and sang to in the nursery.
Left to carry on her legacy are her three children, Sheila (Mike) Burbee, John (Linda) Blankenship, and Amy (Tony) Pannell. She adored her four grandchildren Candace (Daniel) Jerkins, Tate Bunch, Kacie (Jeremy) Wilbur, and Taylor Bunch. No one was loved or spoiled more than her great grandchildren who adored their Granny. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Ruth McBride and Helen Dickson, and one brother, Jack Martin. She also leaves behind many extended family members whom she loved and adored.
Granny loved spending time with her family, whether it was sitting around the table eating, visiting, playing games or watching her great grandchildren play. She also enjoyed taking care of her flowers and plants. More than anything else, she loved to cook for her family and all their friends. Granny served and showed the love of Jesus by keeping everyone’s bellies full. To know Granny was to be loved and fed by her.
Granny will be terribly missed by all her family and friends, but we take comfort in knowing she is fully healed and rejoicing at the feet of her Savior. “We do not grieve as those who have no hope” for our hope is found in Christ alone.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 24, from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday, June 25, at 1:00 p.m.before we celebrate Granny’s life at 2:00 at Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Pkwy.
In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to Greater Memphis Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at https://my.fca.org/tngreatermemphisfca. Granny loved sports but she loved Jesus so much more. She would be honored to know your gifts were used to lead athletes and coaches to a personal relationship with Jesus.
