Elizabeth Carol Dougherty

Elizabeth was born and raised in a small town in Arkansas. She loved helping her Dad, Jack Gibbs, on the farm, and when she wasn’t doing that, she was riding her motorcycle down dirt roads with her best friends and cousins. As a teenager, she loved listening to rock and roll and going to concerts. Her adult life was spent raising her two children, who she always made sure were put first. Elizabeth was also a teacher for 10 years. She spent the majority of this time at Oakland Elementary teaching third grade. In addition to teaching, she spent all of her time with her children, grandchildren, niece and nephew. She played a very active and supportive roll in each of their lives. Elizabeth was an active member in her church, Faith Baptist for the last 17 years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes for the little children and volunteering for vacation Bible school every summer.

Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that when her body took its last breath, she was with Jesus for eternity.

Elizabeth is survived by her mother, Martha Wofford Shanks, and step father Richard Shanks of Memphis, TN; step mother, Debbie Gibbs, of Gilbert, La; her son, Michael Solley (Christi) of West Monroe, la, her daughter, Grace Allison (Cameron), of Memphis TN; grandchildren, Ayden and Harlee Solley of West Monroe, La and Meredith Allison of Memphis, TN, her sister, Amanda Gibbs Jehl and her niece and nephew, Madeleine Jehl and Cameron Jehl Jr. of Memphis TN.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents W.A. and Lucille Gibbs, her maternal grandparents, Oscar “Tap” and Azzie Wofford; her father, Jack Gibbs; and her husband, Todd Dougherty. As well as, her best friend, her beloved beagle, Bailey.

A visitation for Elizabeth will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, 3755 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN 38133. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church.
