Evelyn (Tiny) Marie Harmeier 97, loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on June 16, 2024. She was born on February22, 1927, to her cherished parents Marian and Theodore Perez in Oradell, New Jersey. She was married to her adoring husband of 58 years and lovingly raised 7 children.
She was a devout Catholic and chaired many committees within the diocese for the special needs community. She founded the library at St. Francis of Assisi Church to help others learn about the Catholic faith. She was one of four founding families of Madonna Learning Center and was very involved in Special Olympics. She was a den mother, Girl Scout leader, a member of the Franciscan Third Order and a primary librarian for St. Agnes Academy. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame for St. Agnes Academy as one of the 150 women who made a difference. She was a tremendous role model for her family and the epitome of service for others. She loved dancing from a young age, and her fondest memory was ballet dancing in Carnegie Hall at the age of 8. She shared her passion with anyone who would meet her on the dance floor, even at the age of 97!
She greeted everyone with a smile, a word of encouragement and exuded happiness to all she met.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Joseph Harmeier, her sister, Flora Collins and son, James Francis Harmeier. She is survived by daughter in law Laura, her six children, Meg, Mary, Jack, Jo (Blair), Terry (Greg) and Tom (Natalie). She is also survived by her sixteen grandchildren, Jim Jr. (Jessica), Adam, Nathan (Jenny), Nick (Miranda), Anna (David), Chip, Matt (Kelsie), Andrew (Taylor), Nicole, Liz (Justin), Kristen (Will), Lauren (Lamar), Thomas, John (Maddie), Paul and Sarah Claire, 17 great grandchildren (2 more on the way), one great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on July 1st 5-7 pm with the Rosary at 6:30pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Garden on 3700 N. Germantown Parkway Bartlett TN. Funeral mass will be held on July 2nd at St Michael’s Catholic Church at 10:00am, 3863 Summer Avenue.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Madonna Learning Center or the charity of your choice.
