

Fredda Grinder Bennett, matriarch of the local Grinder family, died suddenly on May 21, 2016, at the age of 95. She was born December 16, 1920, in Yell County, AR to Noble and Ella Grinder. Fredda was preceded in death by her husband Houston Bennett and her son Gerald Houston Bennett. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister Mildred, and five brothers: R.C. (June), Irven “Curley” (Claudine), J.D. (Cereice), Roy, and Robert Lee. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Melba Bennett and brothers Ed (Tena) and Don (Dean-deceased). Fredda was a member of Mullins Station Baptist Church and a former member of Woodlawn Terrace Baptist, Georgian Hills Baptist, and Grace Point Baptist. Fredda’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was always the first to arrive and the last to leave in the event of a need or a celebration. She had a wide circle of friends in Memphis and the surrounding area with whom she enjoyed her passion for dancing. She also loved to share meals, stories, and “ideas” with her family and friends. Fredda was the lynchpin that held her family together. She will be greatly missed. Visitation is Wednesday, May 25 from 5-8 pm. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, May 26 at 10 am. Both will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway. Memorials may be made to Mullins Station Baptist Church, 1170 Mullins Station Road, or the charity of choice.
