Gene Autry Suratt

Gene Autry Suratt, 86, of Memphis, TN, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025. Born on November 25, 1938, in Newbern, TN, to the late Carlie and Myrtle Suratt, Gene lived a life defined by faith, family, and a deep appreciation for history.

Gene loved the Lord and never hesitated to share his faith with others. As a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church, he found joy in worship and the friendships he built within his church community. His faith was the foundation of his life, guiding him in all that he did.

When he wasn’t at church or with family, Gene could often be found exploring antique car shows and flea markets alongside his son, Stephen. He had a deep respect for the past and a passion for preserving pieces of history—a love he passed down to his children and grandchildren, who continue to cherish and uphold his appreciation for the old and the timeless.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Patsy; his sons, Richard and Gene Allen Suratt; his siblings, Gayle, Bob, Charles, Bruce Suratt, and Betty Butler; and his grandson, Bradley Suratt.

He is survived by his daughter, Jacque (Robert) Sexton, and his son, Stephen Suratt; three grandchildren, Jason (Mary) Suratt, Tiffany Suratt, and Bridget (John) Niggl; and eight great-grandchildren, James Suratt, Alexis Alexander, Chloe Evans, Ginger Evans, Addi Whitehead, Jace Suratt, Joely Suratt, and Bradley Suratt. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Laura Qualls.

A visitation for Gene will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and a graveside service from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38133.
