Gerald Welborn Brewer, age 88, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023. Gerald was born in Lee’s Crossing, Mississippi but spent most of his childhood in Olive Branch on his family dairy farm and graduating from Olive Branch High School. Gerald served in the U.S. Army as a Communication Specialist stationed primarily in Germany. He worked as a Lineman with South Central Bell and later AT&T.
Gerald loved being outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. He was a devoted Christian and dedicated servant in his church serving as a deacon, Bible study teacher, choir member, and member/chairperson on many church committees. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Gerald is preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy Loving Brewer; his parents, Robert Artee Brewer and Velma Woolsey Brewer; and 3 brothers, Robert (Bob) Brewer, James (John) Brewer, and Richard (Dick) Brewer. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy B. Rowell (Carter) and son, Gerald Glenn Brewer (Kathy) and his twin brother, Bertram (Bert) Brewer. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Brian Rowell, Chelsea Cole, Nathan Rowell, Corey Brewer, Hunter Brewer, Jereme Cavallo and Andrew Cavallo and 5 great-grandchildren, Hayden, Kadence, Hudson, Mason and Caymus as well as many extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be sent to Highland Heights Baptist Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
A visitation for Gerald will be held Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Highland Heights Baptist Church, 675 National Street, Memphis, TN 38122. A committal service will follow the funeral in Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
