Dean was born October 23rd 1955 in Memphis, Tennessee to Paula Vivian Bartels and Herbert Lea Bartels. He graduated from Treadwell High School in 1973. Dean went on to serve his community as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff’s office. He retired as a Sergeant after 27 years. After which he had his own private investigation business called LEAD Investigations.
Dean is survived by his wife of 27 years, Laura Bartels; his daughter, Anna Leigh Bartels Harding (Kenneth); his son, Evan Dean Bartels; grandchildren, Averie and Allie Harding; and his sister, Paula Sharon Cordell.
Dean had a passion for hunting, fishing, music, history, and telling stories. If you heard his story once, you heard it several times.

Family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Tuesday, April 27th at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. A celebration of Dean’s life will follow at 2:00pm.
