John Witt (J.W.) Pitman of Lakeland, TN August 17, 1938 – December 25, 2020. J.W. was co-founder and President of Shute-Pitman Glass Co., Inc. and now, C.E.O. and Co-owner of Pitman Glass Company and co-founder of Race Track Amoco. Mr. Pitman was instrumental in starting the Memphis Glass Dealers Association and served 2 terms as president. He was a 32 degree mason and Shriner. J.W. was a reserve officer on the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department 1971-1990 culminating by serving as Chief of Staff of reserve officers. He ran successful campaigns that resulted in the election of two Shelby county sheriffs. Among his many other accomplishments he was an instrument rated pilot for 27 years. J.W. is preceded in death by his parents William Earl and Georgia Inez and 2 brothers William Earl Jr and Thomas Coleman. He is survived by his wife Barbara, two sons Jeff (Vickie) Scott (Terry), 4 grandchildren, step daughter, 2 stepsons and four step grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2pm, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, in Rosemark Cemetery, due to the pandemic, attendance is optional. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations made to St. Jude in memory of William (Bill) Pittman.
