

He was born on January 1, 1931, in Augusta, Arkansas, to the late Jack and Clara Mae Gipson. A graduate of Walnut Ridge High School, Jack went on to live a life of service and leadership.
In 1950, he married Polly Hathcoat, his devoted wife of 75 years. Together, they built a strong and loving family and shared a bond that endured through the decades.
Jack served in the United States Navy for 23 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his military career, he was honored to serve on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, contributing at the highest levels of naval leadership.
Following his military service, Jack dedicated more than 25 years to Shelby County Government in senior management. He served as Chief Administrative Officer under both Mayor Roy Nixon and Mayor Bill Morris, playing a key role in shaping local government with steady guidance and integrity.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Polly Gipson; his siblings, Jimmy Gipson, Jerry Gipson, and Carolyn Trantham; and his granddaughter, Jennifer Gipson Bills.
He is survived by his children, Jackie Croft (Preston) of Bartlett and Mike Gipson (Terry) of Lakeland; five grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
