James served his Country in the United States Navy and retired after twenty-two years of service. He was an Ordained Minister and devoted to his Christian faith. He served as Pastor at Eastland Presbyterian Church, where he loved and cared for the people of the community. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
James leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of seven years, Catherine Hillberry, as well as his step son Harvey Marcum (Frances), and one step-daughter Bettie Marcum. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Jacquelyn Sue Hillberry
Also surviving are step-sons, Adam Abel, Steve Abel (Janet), Kelly Abel (Lori), Kevin Abel (Renee), and Greg Abel (Shannon).
James also leaves behind three sisters, two brothers, twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
The family will gather Monday February 12, 2018 from 5-7 PM to receive friends. The funeral service will be held Tuesday February 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Visitation and services will be held Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the United States Navy Memorial Foundation in James honor.
