Born to loving parents, Greg and Kay Seek, on May 25, 1971, Jason grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Christian Brothers High School both in Memphis. Jason went on to attend and to graduate from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in music education where he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha. He later went on to receive his master’s degree in music from The University of Memphis. Jason was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Memphis, where he was confirmed in 1985. It was his beloved church home - a community he dearly loved and respected.
Jason’s life story is one that is full of talent and service. He joined the Cub Scouts and also the Boy Scouts where Jason achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout in 1989 from Troop 200. One of his greatest gifts was his ability to create and to compose music. Jason was a talented musician with the clarinet being his primary instrument. He arranged music on a regular basis and brought such enjoyment to others as he both played and sang at home, church, and in his job. Jason also always loved education, and as he had the chance to learn from talented teachers along the way, he decided to dedicate his life to being a public school educator, where he served as Director of Bands for over 20 years. In this position, he was passionate, dedicated, and caring toward those with whom he came in contact.
Jason loved spending time with his wife and the rest of his family and friends. He was an avid follower of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and enjoyed movie and television trivia as well as roller coasters. Even though Jason had been bravely fighting leukemia since 2012, his sense of humor was ever-present. With every conversation, Jason made it a point to make other people feel important and to infuse some laughter along the way. People who met Jason Seek were all the better for having done so.
Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Seek, as well as by his grandparents, Jesse and Frances Roote and Wally and Vonnie Seek. He is survived by his wife, Jamie Seek; his father and step-mother, Greg and Allene Seek; his sister and brother-in-law, Holly and Tripp Smith; and his twin nephews, Walt and Tate Smith as well as many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 7 at 10:00 a.m. with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Pastor Will Miller will officiate the service.
