Born on August 5, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas, Jean was the youngest of three children of the late Jack and Virginia Pruitt. She graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1969, beginning a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and the simple joys that made life beautiful.
Following high school, Jean worked at Thompson Hayward, where she met the love of her life, Hugh Lynn. They were married on January 26, 1974, and began their life together in Leawood, Kansas. In 1977, they moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where they lived for 11 years before settling in Memphis in November 1988, which would become their home.
In Memphis, Jean and Hugh became devoted members of Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church. Jean found great joy in her church community, especially through her ladies’ Bible study and care group, and treasured the many friendships she formed there. She had a remarkable gift for sewing and could create almost anything with some fabric, needle, and thread. She used her talents to make her home warm, welcoming, and beautiful. She also had a special love for the beach—particularly Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina—where she found peace and happiness. Her home was always surrounded by her carefully tended, and always manicured, floral gardens, a reflection of her nurturing spirit.
Jean was deeply loved by all who knew her. Her faith guided her life, and her family was her greatest joy—especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was always present for those she loved, ready to lend a helping hand without hesitation, embodying a quiet strength, generosity, and grace that will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 51 years, Hugh M. Lynn III, who passed on March 4, 2025; and her older brother, Richard Pruitt.
Jean is lovingly remembered by her children, Julia (Jason) Smith of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Hugh M. (Rachael) Lynn IV of Granger, Indiana; her sister, Karen Finley of Bonner Springs, Kansas; and her seven grandchildren: Abigail, Aiden, Andrew, Ava, Audrey, Landon, and Lynnlee, who were the light of her life.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, March 26, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1665 S. Germantown Road, Germantown, Tennessee.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church.
