Jim went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. He was 79 years old. He was born in Parkin, Arkansas, to his mother Rosa and father Albert Davis. He was a cherished friend to so many, his daughter’s true north, and his presence always brought warmth and laughter to those around him.
Jim’s journey through life was marked by his deep sense of compassion for his family. In 1963, he married Dottie, and their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership for 60 years. Together, they built a life filled with shared dreams and precious memories. Jim was the proud father of two children, Lisa Nelson, and the cherished memory of Jeff, who left us all too soon. He was also a father-in-law to Kevin Nelson, a grandfather “Papa” to Hannah (Brady), and great-grandfather to precious Olivia Grace who loved coloring and playing with John Deere tractor toys with him.
Jim retired after fifty loyal and dedicated years of working in management with the Allen family steel and iron business. He became a private pilot and extended that hobby into building radio-controlled airplanes in his shop using his own drawings. He built things from a vision…. anything he set his mind to building. He loved to fish and spent many days on the water with his friends, nephews and children, especially with Jeff, who fished many tournaments with his dad. Jim was very meticulous about his lawn and spent hours on it up until his final days. He was a member of Bolton Full Gospel Church.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Herman Davis, George Davis and John Davis, his sister Lucille Wells and his son, Jeff Davis. He is survived by his sister, Willene Hawkins of Wynne, AR, sister-in- law Sue Percifield of Indianapolis, IN, brother-in-law Bill Gaskin of Kingwood, TX as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Jimmy will be held Monday, October 23, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
As we bid farewell to Jim Davis, we celebrate the profound impact he had on our lives. His kindness and love for all will continue to inspire us.
