JoAnn Haines, 84 passed away on January 25th, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Benny Haines, her children, Mike Hardin (Cindy), Cathy Bilderback, Ricky Haines (Rochelle), Robert Haines, (Mindy), 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. JoAnn wed Benny Haines in October of 1987. They resided in Memphis, TN until moving 15 years ago to Southaven, MS. JoAnn Haines is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ora Cox of Amory MS. She had one brother, Mickey Cox who preceded her in death in 2019.
JoAnn was a faithful and devoted member of Bellevue Baptist Church since 1986. Bellevue's Passion Play was one of her greatest thrills each year. She delighted in helping sew the banners and flags for the play. JoAnn loved working in the nursery rocking and praying for the babies. She sewed many blankets, gowns and special clothes for the little ones during her years in that ministry. JoAnn attended many bible studies and used her knowledge to help others when called upon by sharing scriptures and the lessons of the bible she had studied. She loved Jesus and shared that love with all her family, friends and anyone that she would talk with. Often writing down verses to share with those that she had been praying for. She was a powerful prayer warrior. JoAnn was a Mighty Force for a 4'11'' petite woman that stood on solid ground.
Most of her life she endured back and neck pain starting at the age of 17 due to a car wreck. JoAnn suffered from migraine headaches, stomach ulcers, back and neck pain but continued working and raising her two young children. Over the years she never questioned God as to why her. Her testimony was her strength in how she endured the years of pain and kept going with that beautiful smile on her face and her faith in the Lord for healing and blessings. She believed that she was blessed with her husband Benny and all 4 of her children, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. How she loved her family and they all loved her so very much and miss her so.
JoAnn Haines worked as a Legal Secretary until her retirement. She also worked part time preparing taxes. We will surely miss her during that tax time of the year. She was detailed and worked long hours with each task she took on for work or church or home. Nothing could stop her from what she thought she needed to do for her family or others. Her love for sewing and needle work kept her hands busy and in the later years knotted with arthritis. Still, she never complained just worked until her hands would not move any longer. Her beautiful handiwork will now be heirlooms that her grandchildren will cherish for years to come. This is a talent God gave JoAnne very early in life as she began sewing her own clothes while a teenager and developed that talent. Always had multiple sewing projects or needlework going close by her. We all can relate to the pins and threaded sewing needles stuck about the house just ready for her to pick up and finish a stitch or two on projects she would be completing or starting.
She and her friend Mona would make clothes for their kids and grandkids. From the time they were infants thru the teenage years, finally making the best Bride dresses that Brides' magazine would envy. She was such a talented and artistic seamstress. JoAnne also loved shoes, all types of shoes. Her granddaughters would play dress up and walk around in those high heels or boots for hours. Melissa, Mike's daughter would call JoAnn's shoes her dress up Barbie shoes and she would stay in JoAnn's closet for hours just playing dress up.
Her favorite time of year was Christmas when she would decorate her home and cook for her family. Making sure that everyone had something that they liked to eat from candy, baked goods, to the fixings for Christmas dinner. She so loved having family and friends over at Christmas. She would make goodies and dishes for neighbors, friends at church or for anyone in need. JoAnn was truly a giving person who loved sharing her blessings. JoAnn loved to find recipes to try for her Sunday School class. Always making a dish to take to those that were in the hospital or sick at home, just to anyone in need. Her time in Bible study class with her friends delighted her and helped grow her faith deeply. She shared that faith and helped many come to know the Lord.
Family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Saturday, January 29th at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 2:00pm.
