Marvin Ray Allison, 97, was born on January 23, 1917 in Pocahontas, Arkansas and passed away on February 10, 2014. Marvin is survived by Clemmie Young Allison, his wife of 23 years, a son, Jerry Allison, his wife, Beverly of Memphis, a daughter, Lynn Allison, her husband, Viktor Tretiakov of Donetsk, Ukraine, a granddaughter, Angela Allison Grace, her husband Jason, two great-grandchildren, Braden and Allison Grace and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Billie Pettigrew Allison, his mother, father and six brothers and sisters. Marvin began his early life as a farmer and automobile mechanic, but always felt the desire to preach the Word of God. He preached in Syracuse, New York and several small churches in Arkansas. He and his family moved to Memphis in 1957. He served as an elder for the Union Avenue church of Christ for one and a half years before leaving in 1965 to serve in the mission field. Marvin and Billie worked with churches of Christ in New Zealand and the Fiji Islands from 1965 until her death in 1990. Marvin and Clemmie made several mission trips to New Zealand, Fiji, and Ukraine. Marvin served as associate minister for the Union Avenue church of Christ and Woodland Hill church of Christ until he retired. He served as a hospice volunteer for six years until he was 84 years old. For the past few years he has attended worship every Sunday and Wednesday evening and listened to the service from his chair in the lobby. His empty chair will be a reminder to so many, of his faithful Christian example. Visitation will be Friday, February 14th from 6-8pm and funeral service at 10am on Saturday, February 15th, both at Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Rd.
