Newton H. Mealer, Sr., 76, of Memphis, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011. He was the owner of Newt’s Berclair Wrecker, Summer Avenue Wrecker, East Memphis Wrecker and Newt’s Auto Sales. He was also a founding member of Trafalgar Village Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Mealer, the husband of Nancy Mealer for 57 years, also leaves a daughter, Lisa (Randy) Chapman of Olive Branch; two sons, Kenneth (Sheri) Mealer of Olive Branch and Newton Mealer, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Memphis; a brother, Ellis Mealer, Jr. of Chapel Hill, TN; and eight grandchildren, Jacob Chapman, Evan Mealer, Caleb Chapman, Kyle Mealer, Luke Chapman, Kurt Hobbs, Jake Mealer and Hope Mealer. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, October 16 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Entombment will follow in Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Trafalgar Village Baptist Church Extreme Makeover.
