Born in Bruce, Mississippi on April 28, 1934 to William Terry Box and Roxie Brasher Box, Paul (as he was known) was the youngest of 10 children and was the last living sibling. Paul had recently celebrated his 85th birthday.
Paul graduated from Bruce High School in 1954, and was a member of the legendary 1953 Trojans football team. He later attended East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba, MS. In 1956, Paul entered the US Army and became a PFC in the 565th Transportation Company.
Paul and Eugenia Aston were married in 1955, and they moved to Memphis for Eugenia to pursue her Education degree at Memphis State University. In 1965 they adopted a son, Jon Michael Box, from the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home in 1965. They were members of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and served at several other organizations. He also loved being a greeter at Bellevue Baptist Church for many years.
Paul worked over 40 years for Sears in the famed Crosstown location, and later at Seth’s Lighting. They were married for 52 years until her passing in 2006.
Paul loved Southern Gospel music and went to many concerts over the years. And while Paul also loved to hunt, his real love was Ole Miss Football. With friends Gene Malone and Jim Lindsey, they made many road trips to Oxford occurred over the years to watch their beloved Rebels.
Later, Paul served as a greeter at Ellendale Baptist Church, and was a proud member of Charlie Goforth’s Sunday School Class. Paul’s had a special friend at church in Linda Meeden, a companion to many gospel music outings in his final twelve years on this earth.
Paul leaves behind a son Jon and daughter-in-law Tonya Taylor Box, and 3 grandsons - Stephen Box and wife Rachael, Taylor Box, and Trace Box.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eugenia, his brothers Durant, Dean, Ray, Roy and Hoyt Box, and sisters Helen Williams, Hazel Snellings, Ora Mae Ferguson and Floy Parker.
