Born on September 14, 1941, in Memphis, Bob was the son of Frank Lawrence Mensi and Elizabeth (Huffman) Mensi. He was a lifelong Memphian, deeply rooted in his community and family.
Bob graduated from Christian Brothers in 1959 and went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from Christian Brothers College. He had a long and fulfilling career at Memphis Light, Gas & Water, where he served as Manager of Systems Operations until his retirement in 1999.
In 1985, Bob met Ava Dame, and just two years later, they were married on November 21, 1987. Their love and partnership spanned 38 years, filled with laughter, shared interests, and enduring support.
Bob had a gentle spirit and a zest for life’s simple pleasures. He found joy in fishing, gardening, cooking Italian meals, and watching the birds that visited his backyard. He especially cherished reconnecting with old friends from high school and spending time with his family, who were his greatest pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife Ava, his children Robert Paul Mensi, John Francis Mensi, and Angela (Mensi) Wingfield; his son-in-law Monte Wingfield; and his grandson, Evion Mensi. He is also remembered fondly by extended family and lifelong friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved brother and best friend, Joseph Mensi.
A visitation to honor Bob’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, at 1:00 p.m.(visitation) and 2:00 pm (service) at Memphis Funeral Home, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s name to Memphis Union Mission, an organization close to his heart.
