Mr. Magpuri is survived by his loving wife, Regina, and four children, Mrs. Jennifer Cross (Kevin) of Ellicott City, MD, Dr. Anne Magpuri of Gig Harbor, WA, Christopher Magpuri (Joanne) of Champlin, MN and Dr. Theresa Magpuri-Lavell (John) of Milledgeville, GA. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Andrew Shaffer (Emma), Alyssa Shaffer Renaud (David), Natalie Cross, and Spencer Magpuri; and one great-grandchild, Thomas Romero Shaffer. In addition, he is survived by his seven siblings, Cesar, Sor Ana, OP, Susie, Lucy, Robert, Nora, and Perpetua (Baby).
Mr. Magpuri was born in Cavite, Philippines to the late Pedro and Natividad Magpuri. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy for 26 years, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, Yeoman (YNCS). His career in the Navy took him to many places around the world and the U.S. He was stationed in California, Rhode Island, England, Okinawa, Taiwan, Washington, DC and S.H.A.P.E. Belgium, his last duty station. He also served aboard the USS Coral Sea. While in the military and raising a family, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Maryland. After his retirement, he entered the Federal Government and became a civil servant for 33 years. His last assignment was with Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, TN, where he worked for many years. Mr. Magpuri was a devoted husband and father who instilled the value of education and hard work to his children. He was a devout Catholic, attending mass and praying the rosary daily. He loved to read, travel, play tennis, and was an avid college sports fan. His favorite teams were the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (his son and grandson are alumni) and the University of Maryland Terrapins.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 8, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8151 Chimney Rock Blvd, Cordova, TN. He will be interred at the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (noted above), where Mr. Magpuri was a long-time parishioner.
