Shirley J. Hughes, 85, of Brunswick, TN died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis. Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Brunswick Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Harl Hughes; and two sons, Harl William Hughes, Jr., and Charles David Hughes. Surviving are her two sons, John C. Hughes of Winston Salem, NC; James P. Hughes of Brunswick, TN; two daughters-in-law, Mary Hughes and Cathy Hughes both of Memphis; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Hughes of Memphis, and Mary Jordan Hughes of Winston Salem, NC. The family will receive friends at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Brunswick Road. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Methodist Hospice Residence, the American Cancer Society, or to the Salvation Army.
