New Family,
I went to the service we had at Bagram  on  August 02 of 2013.
I still have the  Memorial handout from that service and pull it out often and especially during the month of July.
As a contractor we prepped the vehicles for missions and was there to see them off and welcome them back. I wanted to be there one more time so see him off, and let God welcome him back.
I just wanted you to know your son/brother is not forgotten.  Even those of us who did not wear the uniform mourn his loss.

On this Memorial Day we keep the memory of Stephen in our hearts. For many it is the one day a year to reflect on the unselfish sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform. For a few it has a significance that cannot be measured in words. "Never Forget."

Dear friends and family of Stephen M. New , for your loss.I'm so sorry. I'm very thankful for son that fought for our freedom.I learned about him in my 4th grade writing class.We learned of the brave men and women that sacrificed their lives for our freedom.All gave some and some gave all. Freedom isn't free but every day I am proud to be an American.

My heart is heavy and my spirit is humbled as I write these words. Since July 28, 2013 there is not a day that goes by that Stephen is not a part of my memory. His dedication to duty and commitment to his mission truly marked him as a man of discipline and courage.
Stephen made such a positive impact on his brothers in arms. He was not only respected but more importantly he was loved by the peace warriors he served with.
My son Eric was wounded that day and rode the chopper out with Stephen. Eric told me that Stephen was his mentor and friend.
May god bless you all. I will keep Stephen's memory alive always.

I served in Vietnam as a door-gunner on Marine helicopters.  We flew a lot of medivac missions and carried a lot of medics.  They each and everyone proved to be made of the same metal ... fearless, brave, and caring.  They earned my deepest respect and admiration. The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another. 

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SSG  Stephen Michael Parrish New our Brother-in-Arms.   To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Stephen.  And to Stephen it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the supreme sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces as a combat medic in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army.  No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another.  Stephen, you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for.  You are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero.  With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure.  We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

My son was serving with Stephen during this tragedy. I did not know Stephen personally but I wept all night for your family. I prayed for Gods comfort to rest on each of you and our men who are left to continue the mission inspite of having lost their brother in arms. From one mother to another I know the pain of losing a child. My heart goes out to you all. I have a picture of Stephen with my son and their group from the day they deployed. I look at it every day and say a prayer for them and now for your family as you grieve. You are not alone. Your son is a hero. My husband Chaplain Brian Minietta was serving as Stephen's Battalion chaplain on this deployment and shared with me that he met Stephen at a church service he provided out at his location while visiting his team shortly before he went to be with The Lord. Brian said they had a great conversation and Stephen knew Christ. I trust Stephen is in the arms of Jesus and experiencing the peace and love that only Christ can provide. I am so sorry for the loss each of you feel and the heart ache this brings to so many. It's men like Stephen who make this nation great!
