

SSG Stephen Michael Parrish New, 29, went to Heaven on July 28, 2013. He was born on October 9, 1983 in Homewood, AL. He died while serving as a Special Forces Medic in Operation Enduring Freedom in Sarobi, Afghanistan. He loved skateboarding, reading, wood working, and sharing his faith in Jesus, his Savior. He is survived by his parents, Bill and Michelle New of Bartlett, TN; his sister, Rachel (Andy) Schelb of Soddy Daisy, TN; his nephew, Reed Schelb; his grandmother, Eleanor New of Opelika, AL; his aunt Joyce (John) Newland also of Opelika, AL; his uncle Jim (Karen) New of Collierville, TN; 5 cousins, Laura Hill, Frank Newland, Kathyrn Ammon, Erick New, and Christopher New as well as 8 second cousins. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, at Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett, TN with the service to follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of SSG Stephen New to either the Green Beret Foundation at greenberetfoundation.org, or to Eads Baptist Church for the Ukrainian Gypsy Orphan Project (UGP ) or to Brandon and Michelle Burch through online giving at us.worldteam.org.
