Surrounded by her four daughters, at 82 years of age, Virgie Crutchfield was received peacefully by the Lord on the morning of September 3, 2020. Born March 22, 1938 in Obion County, TN as one half of a twin set, Virgie engaged a life driven by faith and focused on family. One of 12 children Virgie quickly became known for her beauty, her kindness and passion for sports. As a high school basketball player, Virgie was once her team MVP. A visiting spectator asked intently about the pretty forward from Rives High School and soon a budding romance blossomed. Glen and Virgie were married on January 1, 1955. Army service immediately separated the New Year’s Newlyweds, but once reunited the two moved to Chicago, to Memphis and then North Carolina. A final Memphis stop ended the whirlwind tour, and here the Crutchfield family would stay and flourish. A vibrant wife in a bustling life, burst at the seams of joy as four daughters blessed their home. The industrious, conservative, hopeful Virgie fostered a deep love for each of these four unique girls, and she held this family close for the remainder of her years. Through every trial and each blessing she remained a true matriarch, grateful, anchored by faith. She drew from the instructions of Proverbs 3:5-6, and did just what the verses advise - trust and acknowledge the Lord. Her faith in God and love of family was unmatched. She lives in our memories as a blonde, smiling angel, in our hearts as a joyful, generous treasure that loved us.
Mrs. Crutchfield is preceded in death by her husband Glen Crutchfield, father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James Earl Jones Sr. and 10 siblings.
She is survived by her brother, Preston Jones.
Virgie leaves her four daughters Cindy White, Patty Rotenberry (Jimmy), Candie Butler (Steve), and Beth Stone (Stephen).
She was incredibly proud of her grandchildren, Emily White, Justin Rotenberry (Courtney), Chris Rotenberry (Amanda), Jon Rotenberry (Ashley), Kristen Glennon (Connor), Christina Butler, Faith Butler and Boston Stone.
Virgie was blessed with 7 great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Tyler Rotenberry, Presley, William and Harrison Rotenberry, Aubrey and Abigail Rotenberry.
