William “Bill” Edward Evans, Sr., 80, of Bartlett, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015. Bill is survived by 3 children, 5 step-children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and countless friends and associates. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 34 years, Melba Cobb Evans. He was a longtime member of Mullins Station Baptist Church. Born on September 12, 1934 in Blytheville, Arkansas, Bill moved to Memphis in 1950. In 1951 he began his 63 year career as a Steamfitter Apprentice and joined Steamfitters Local Union 614. He mentored several people in beginning their own careers as Steamfitters. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, May 9 from 11-2 p.m. with the funeral starting at 2 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd.
