Michael Dean Grimm, age 72, of Thrall, Texas., peacefully passed away surrounded by family on September 26, 2023. Mike was born on August 5, 1951 in Taylor, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Laverne Grimm. Survived by his children Matt Grimm and Penny Calderon with husband Jason; sisters Patricia Guess with husband Daryl, and Carol Morisset; brothers Ronnie Grimm with wife Suzanne, and Danny Grimm with wife Linda; grandchildren Mitchell with wife Ramsey, Marcus, and McKinley Grimm; and many nephews and nieces.
After graduating high school in Salado, Texas., he served as a supply sergeant in the Army National Guard. He earned an Associate’s Business Degree at Temple Junior College and worked for companies IBM, CompuAdd, Siemens and Flextronics as a Procurement Supply Manager. During his professional career, he traveled to several Asian countries, such as China, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan, and always brought back souvenir gifts for his family.
Mike played basketball and was the football quarterback in high school. He played in church & workplace softball leagues, tennis, enjoyed water skiing, and all forms of sports. He also coached Matt’s youth soccer and baseball teams. He was a Sunday School Teacher at Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown where he was known to excite & educate students about the love of God through creative lectures & presentations. Mike was a family man that spent quality time with his children that will never be forgotten.
He was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors. Fishing for white bass and catfish was a passion, as well as hunting whitetail deer and dove. He willingly passed his skill, and knowledge down to his son and grandsons who practice his teachings regularly with continued success. He was without a doubt a bonified “southern chef”. His love for food was deeply rooted in his very being; BBQing, grilling, smoking, frying, baking, and pickling everything and anything, was at his core of life. He routinely showed this side of himself as he loved to host others at gatherings and see their expressions when they tried his “stuff”. He for sure had a very long sweet tooth; we will all forever miss the rock-hard chocolate fresh out of the freezer.
Mike was a humble and modest man that took friendship and accountability seriously. One could always count on Mike, no matter the ask. Not showing up or even being late was unacceptable; he was somewhat impatient and despised waiting on others, so he made sure others never waited on him. He was usually an hour early which quickly became the running inside joke.
Pallbearers are grandsons Mitchell and Marcus Grimm, nephews Rusty, Clynt, Darin, and Jeremy Grimm, Phil Morisset, and close friends Champ Hill, Mark Monson, and Jim Green. Honorary pallbearer, nephew, Monte Guess.
Special thanks to Dr. James Trotter, Medical Director of Hepatology Outreach Strategy & Planning at Baylor University Medical Center; a part of Baylor Scott & White Health in Dallas, for never giving up on dad and treating him with the utmost dignity and respect he so rightfully deserved through this long and challenging time.
