

He was born December 23, 1967 in Waterloo, IA to James Stear and Phylis (Rowden) Bailey. He married Stephanie Tjarks on August 6, 1988 in Bartonville. She survives along with his two mothers: Mary Stear of Peoria, Phylis Bailey of Morton, two sons: Nicholas (Amber) Stear of Peoria, Zachary Stear of Peoria, two sisters: Michelle (Clark) Vandegraft of Peoria, Marnie Stear of Peoria, and three brothers: Todd (Cyndy) Thousand of Pekin, Bob (Robin) Carr of Peoria, and Demetrius (Yen) Stear of Lehi, UT.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Stear.
Chris was a proud United States Marine veteran. Stationed in places like Japan, Hawaii, and North Carolina. He embraced every opportunity to experience new cultures, savor local cuisine, and explore the world. These travels ignited a lifelong passion for cooking that he later shared with family and friends through many delicious meals.
He was skilled and knowledgeable, using his talents to help family and friends with projects and repairs. If he didn't know how to do something he would eagerly learn it.
He was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years, last working in Bartonville.
Visitation will be held at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, 1203 West Garfield Ave, Bartonville, IL 61607, on May 21, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, on May 22, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion, 4501 S Airport Rd, Bartonville, IL 61607, on May 22, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
