

.Eugene L. “Gene” Stringer, 69, of Bartonville, Illinois, died Tuesday evening November 22, 2011 at his residence. He was born December 6, 1941 in New Madrid, Missouri. He was adopted by Gerald and Garneta (McCann) Stringer. He married Beverly Shanahan Allison on July 16, 1980 in Houston, Texas. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Troy (Carrie) Stringer of Sycamore, Illinois and Kevin (Melissa) Henry of Peoria. One sister, Nancy (Loren) Highley of Washington, Illinois survives. He is survived by two grandchildren Nicholas and Nathan Stringer of Sycamore, Illinois. He has 5 Step Grandchildren, Steven Allison and Desiree (Tom) Wright both of Seattle, Washington, Renee (Adam) Burpee of Alaska, Brandon (Lia) Allison of Arkansas, and Ashley Allison of Detroit, Michigan. There are also five Step Great Grandchildren, Bailey Allison of Alaska, Braden and Burkley Allison of Arkansas, Ian and Madelyn Wright of Seattle, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and two step sons, Steve and David Allison.
Gene was a retired Captain of the Peoria City Fire Department where he worked 28 and one half years retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Bartonville American Legion Post 979, Life member of the AMVETS Post 169 in North Pekin, and a member of the Firefighters Retirees. He enjoyed fishing at his cabin in Wisconsin and playing pool was his most enjoyable past time. He was a Navy Veteran, where he played in the Navy Band.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Chaplain of the Peoria Fire Department, Chief Phillip Maclin will officiate. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00PM at the funeral chapel. Cremation rites will be accorded after services on Saturday. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
