

George F. Calvert Jr., 83, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away at the home of his sister in Pekin, Illinois on Thursday, January 7, 2016. He was born on July 8, 1932 in Bonne Terre, Missouri to George and Martha (Goll) Calvert Sr. He married Evelyn Gillham-Payne on November 20, 1955 in Lincoln, Illinois. She preceded him in death on September 9, 1995 in East Peoria, Illinois. He is also preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Edenburn, Margaret Oats and Ruby Bee.
George is survived by one step son, Paul Payne of Alabama and one step daughter, Kathy Peacher of Florida; nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He has three brothers, John (Dixie) Calvert and Walter (Willie) Calvert both of Yuma, Arizona and William (Sandy) Calvert of Washington, Illinois. He has three sisters, Della Shelton of Bartonville, Illinois, Mayce (Chuck) Colclasure of Marquette Heights, Illinois and Ann Williams of Pekin, Illinois. He has many nieces and nephews.
He worked from 1955 to 1972 at Hiram Walker Distillery, where he was vice president of the International Coopers Association, then from 1972 to 1997 at Orkin Pest Control and last worked at Nena Hardware from 2004 until 2009. He attended the Highview Church of God in Washington, Illinois.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Patrick McCone will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7PM at the funeral chapel on Monday evening. Burial will be in the Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Highview Church of God in Washington.
