John Joseph Chiaravalle, 70, of Peoria passed away peacefully at home with family, from cancer, on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. He was born November 4, 1945 in Peoria, Illinois, to Joseph and Josephine (Mirande) Chiaravalle. He married Edna Gayle Arthur on June 6, 1966 in El Paso, Texas. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2014 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Surviving are his sons, Mark (Jayme) Chiaravalle, Jeff (Angie) Chiaravalle and Johnnie Chiaravalle; six grandchildren, Andrew, Jeffrey Jr., Jayden, Laney, Nick and Johnnie Jr., all of Peoria; brothers, Frank (Julia) Chiaravalle of San Diego, CA, and Jimmy (Kathy) Chiaravalle of St. George, UT; sister, MaryAnn Harting of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Alice Chiaravalle of Bartonville, IL; best friends, Jay Abraham and Gary Jones; and special friend, Martha Hall. He graduated from Spalding High School in the class of 1963. John's father passed away when he was 14 years old, and thus he got a job to help support the family. His first job was setting up bowling pins and his second job was a busboy at the Holiday Inn. John was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after 30 years of service. John and his wife, Gayle, were the successful owners of Midwest Janitorial Service for 40 years. John loved Notre Dame football. John and Gayle attended many Notre Dame football games over the years, and if he couldn't attend, he watched every game on television religiously. John most admired his father, Joseph, and brother-in-law, Dick Harting. Grandpa John was a huge influence on the grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their sporting events, and they loved hanging out at Grandpa's. Both of them were loved dearly and with their passing there is a big hole in the Chiaravalle family. Services will be on Saturday, May 28, 2016, with visitation from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m., followed by a 10:00 funeral mass, all at St. Anthony's Church in Bartonville. The Rev. David Heinz will officiate. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. A luncheon will be provided at St. Anthony Hall next door to the church after the burial. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Church.
