Shirley E. Potter, 94, of Bartonville, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Born in Peoria, on October 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Winton Rodgers and Hazel (Matheny) Taylor. On May 28, 1955, she married Gerald L. Potter, Sr. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2011.
Survivors include five children, Sue Easton, Cathy (Woody Dees) Banko, Gerald (Laura) Potter, Jr., John (Jody) Potter, and Janet (Larry) Gibson; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and two brothers, Jim Taylor and Bob (Chris) Taylor. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Tom, and John Rodgers; and a sister, Carol Davis.
Shirley dedicated her life to raising her family, who refer to her as the best mother in the whole wide world. She was a member at St. Ann Catholic Church and enjoyed reading and traveling, especially as her husband's navigator.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the funeral home, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
