

She was born in Peoria to John and Elaine (Keenan) Thornton on April 9, 1944. She married David L. Stone in Peoria on August 9, 1980. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2006.
Surviving are her sister Eileen Lofthouse and her special friend Mary Cox. Also surviving are her four sons, Roger Monroe, Joseph (Jeannie) Monroe, James (Marly) Monroe, and Robert Monroe; stepchildren, Paul Stone, Kenneth Stone, and Lynn (Irving) Yancey; grandchildren, Daniel Monroe, Nathanial Monroe, Brett (Shannon) Baker, Stefanie (Brett) Honeggar, and Blake Monroe; and great grandchildren, Dylan Welker, Elijah Honeggar, Isabell Honeggar, Amelia Monroe, Ava Baker, and Riley Baker.
Susan worked in corporate accounting at Caterpillar Inc. where she was president of the Caterpillar Employee's Club for two terms. She was a long time member of St. John's Catholic Church and a member of the St. John's Choir.
After 30 years of service at Caterpillar, she retired with her sister in August of 1997. Afterward, she moved to Dyersberg, Tennessee with her husband. While there she was a member of the Dyer County Family Community Education Club where she was chosen to be Western District Officer and acted as the president.
In 2002 Susan and David moved back to Peoria to be closer to their family. She became a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Peoria and the Catholic Lady's Guild. She was also a member of the Red Hats. She was a teacher assistant at St. Mary's Catholic School in Kickapoo.
Susan was a very generous person. She gave to many charities and was always very supportive and loving toward her family and friends.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Peoria, with further visitation one hour before Mass on Monday. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Terry Cassidy officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville is in charge of arrangements.
