

Amos Edwin Byrd, 85, of Fieldale, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. He was born in Fieldale, March 10, 1925 to H. Amos Byrd and Algie Bryant Byrd. He was a graduate of Fieldale High School and served in the Navy during World War II where he was a member of the Naval Armed Guard and received a Bronze Star. He retired from Fieldcrest Mills where he was employed for 40 years. He attended Bible Baptist Church and was a member of the Rangely Ruritan Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernadine Griffith Byrd, his second wife, Bessie M. Pratt Byrd and his sister, Winfred B. Fulcher.
Surviving are two sons, Anthony Byrd of Woolwine and Wesley Byrd of Cornelius, NC; one granddaughter, Angie Dillon and three great-grandsons, Aaron, Andy and Thomas Dillon.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett with the Rev. Raymond Moorefield officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the funeral service at Collins-McKee-Stone in Bassett.
