

George Cabell Philpott, 91, of Stuart and formerly of Bassett, died Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Landmark Center where he was a resident. He was born in Bassett, January 26, 1922 to James Jefferson Philpott and Mattie Franklin Philpott. He was a graduate of Bassett High School and National Business College and served as a pilot in the 5th Air Force, 22nd Bomb Group in WW II. He retired from Bassett Furniture Industries after 40 years and was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Taylor Philpott, granddaughter, Laura Stultz, son-in-law, Neil Stultz, two sisters, Mary P. Austin and Helen P. Meade and a brother, McGuire Philpott.
Surviving are a daughter, Judith Philpott Stultz of Pittsburgh, PA, three sons, George C. Philpott, Jr. and wife, Rianna of Greensboro, NC, Franklin Taylor Philpott and wife, Rhonda of Russellville, AR and Mark R. Philpott of Bassett, eight grandchildren, David Stultz (Shelly), Brian Stultz, Sarah Coggins (Trent), Mary Philpott (Mark Hasselbach), Adam, Rachel, Elizabeth and Tyler Philpott;, four great-grandchildren, Grant and Corinne Stultz, Dylan Coggins and Peter Philpott.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11 AM at Roselawn Abbey with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett.
