Obituary of Helen Mary Carpenter Hewitt
Helen Carpenter Hewitt, age 94, of Collinsville, VA, passed peacefully Saturday, January 30th, 2021. Born December 24, 1926 in Marietta, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Hiram Alexander Carpenter and Mary Ambler Carpenter of St. Marys, WV. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School and West Virginia University. She taught school for 35 years, first in Pocahontas, Virginia and primarily at Georgetown/Sussex High School in Georgetown, Delaware. Having given her heart to the Lord Jesus in 1938, she was very active in Church and Aglow fellowships, Christian Believers United and various ministries. She was a member of the Ohio Valley and later Major Nathaniel Mitchell Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolutionary War (DAR), was twice Regent, and was honored as an Honorary Lifetime Member in 2017 for over 65 years of dedicated service. She was an active volunteer in many varied community service projects and organizations. Surviving is her daughter, Marianne H. Robbins and spouse Dianne Robbins of Sacramento, CA, her son, Richard Franklin Hewitt and spouse, Tara Elizabeth Daigle Hewitt, of Woodstock, GA, granddaughter Jesse H. King and spouse Jeff King of Livingston, MT, great grand-children Eleanor, Griffin, and Duncan King. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years, Frank S. "Pete" Hewitt, siblings Hiram A. Carpenter Jr., J. Franklin Carpenter, Walter S. Carpenter, Rebecca C. Runnels, and her identical twin, Barbara Ann Carpenter Topper. A public visitation will be held on Saturday, February 13th, 2021, at Collins McKee Stone Funeral Home, Bassett,VA, from 9am to 5pm. A viewing will also be held in St. Marys WV, on Friday, February 19, 2021, from 6pm to 8pm at Ingraham Funeral Home. The Funeral will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021, with final viewing from 9am to 11am, Memorial service at 11am, and internment immediately following at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, St. Marys, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory for her nephew, Rev. T.A.
