James Edward East

Mr. James Edward East, age 75 of Martinsville, Virginia passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020. Mr. East was born on February 6, 1944 in Henry County to the late Harvey "Tom" Raymond East, Sr. and the late Mary Ethel Lawson East. He was also predeceased by one sister, Hattie Mae Mills, three brothers, Robert, Russell and David East. He was employed by Koger Air Corporation for over thirty years. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. East is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Matherly East, three daughters, Mary Jane Kendrick, Teresa Ann Utt, Janet Purdy, one son, James Lee East, three sisters, Mary Ruth Barlowe, Brenda Shelton, Linda Mullis, two brothers, Bobby and Smokey East, five grandchildren, Morgan, Brian, Scott, Nicholas, Amber and one great grandchild, Macayden James Bruce. The family suggest memorials be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 210 Franklin Road SE #808, Roanoke, Virginia 24011 or to the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA, 132 Joseph Martin Hwy, Martinsville, Virginia 24112. A Memorial Service with Military Rites will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Collins Funeral Home at Bassett, Virginia.
