Obituary of John Edward Lampkin
God in his Omniscient Wisdom called his son, John Edward Lampkin home on Friday, March 19, 2021. John, "Sonny Boy", aka "Red" as he was known was the eldest son of the late John and Clara Mae Lampkins. John was born October 20, 1941 in Axton, VA. He completed his high school education in Virginia and then relocated to Cleveland Ohio in the early 60's. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Lampkins. John was united in marriage to Precious Kimberly Bennett on May 28, 2005. John joined Greater Refuge Temple Center of Deliverance Church in 2007, under the leadership of the late Bishop Albert Hairston. He was a dedicated servant in the church - a member of the Men's Choir, he served as an Usher and was a Deacon. He was loved by his church family as well as everyone that he came in contact with. He had a very friendly, sociable, and engaging personality, you could say that John never met a stranger. Coming from a large family, he knew how to treat people and make them feel comfortable. He embodied his name Sonny Boy for he was truly sunny. He was known for the love of his cars and especially enjoyed competing in Classic Car shows with his 1978 Red Chevy Corvette. Upon relocation to Cleveland, John held numerous jobs until he found a "home" in the construction industry and was a long-standing member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. John worked for Horvitz Construction, Trinidad Construction and finally Allega Construction, where he retired after 42 years of service. He was a skilled tradesman and an expert in the operation of heavy construction equipment. At one point, John was the only person that was allowed to operate a very expensive and difficult piece of excavation equipment. He helped to train and supervise many team members during his career. John leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over 15 years, Precious Kimberly of the home. His children, April of Arkansas, Darwin, Earl (Marcia), Carmen, and Eric of Cleveland OH; his brothers Bobby (Robin), Levy Scott (Jennifer), and Larry of Cleveland, OH; Calvin (Deborah), Christopher (Julia) of Martinsville, VA. His sisters, Althea French (Jack), and Thelma Locklear of Cleveland OH. His sister-n-laws Leslie Hodge-Mansur (Muhammad) of Cleveland, OH and Molly Ann Lampkins of Martinsville, VA.
