Nellie Bishop Hundley

Nellie Bishop Hundley, 104, of Martinsville, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at Stanleytown Health and Rehab in Bassett. She was born in Roanoke, VA, January 30, 1914 to Willie P. Bishop and Annie Davis Menefee Bishop. Nellie was a very active member of Stanleytown United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for 70 years. She was a certified Lay Speaker and served on the Danville District Board of Layity for 20 years. She also served with the United Methodist Women at Stanleytown United Methodist Church as well as the Danville District for 20 years. She was a 78-year member of Electra Chapter 33 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. “Rex” Hundley; sister, Virginia Menefee Bishop Gardner; brother, William Hanson Bishop; special sister-in-law, Frances Hundley Willis; 3 nephews, Curtis Gardner, William Hanson Bishop, Jr. and David Bishop; 2 nieces, Anne Wilson and Frankie Ilene Dosda.
Surviving are her nephew Jerry Willis (Linda) of Salem and niece, Linda Gardiner (Dan) of Radford; 8 great nieces, Nancy Ortiz, Donna Deboe, Joyce Weber, Susan McCutcheon, Sallie Johnson, Holly Jean Blodgett, Billye E. Prier and Jessica White; 10 great nephews, Billy Wilson, David Bishop, Clyde Bishop, Robert David Blodgett, Kurt William Blodgett, Carl Edward Blodgett, Grant M. J. Blodgett, Chad Willis, Trevor Willis, and Jon Harrison. Also surviving are 36 great-great nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Stanleytown United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem at 2:00 p.m.
Arrangements are by Collins Funeral Home in Bassett, VA.
