
A native of New Orleans and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at his home at age 75. He was a graduate of LSU with a bachelor's degree in accounting. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Saturday, April 5, was from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visiting resumes Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Jewish Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Kantrow Sommer, of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Sue Sommer, of Dallas, and Staci Sommer, of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alan had a lifelong love for LSU, bleeding purple and gold for LSU football and baseball. He attended his first football game at age 3. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rhea Levy Sommer, and father, Adolph N. Sommer; and sister and brother-in-law, Sue Sommer and Walter Mayer. He was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel. He belonged to the following honor societies: Commerce Honorary, Pi Tau Pi, Omicron Kappa Omicron, Pi Gamma Mu, Louisiana CPA Honorary, ODK, Zeta Beta Tau fraternity, Beta Gamma Sigma, Iota Kappa Iota, and Beta Alpha Psi.
