
At the time of his death on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer, he was living in Texas City, Texas. He was born in Baton Rouge on May 18, 1931. He served in the U.S. Navy and saw action in the Korean War aboard the USS General W.A. Mann, earning a Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Medal and a Korean Service Medal with two stars. Upon completion of the apprenticeship, he worked as an electrician, retiring from Exxon Chemical Co. with 30 years of service. Albert was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union (IBEW) and also the Masons, where he completed 32nd degree achievement. Albert was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha Jennette Brown Van Norman; sons, Robert Oniel Van Norman and his wife, Karen, Donald Ray Van Norman, Albert Berry Van Norman III and his wife, Yolunda, and Mark Anthony Van Norman; and grandchildren, Emily, Daniel, Christopher, Elizabeth, Joshua and Jonathan. Preceded in death by his parents, Albert Berry Van Norman Sr. and Eva Crambe Van Norman. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes in the funeral home chapel on Saturday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. John Goodwin. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to: Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital of Memphis, Tenn.
