Alexander Starns Pittenger, born January 17, 1977 passed away on Sunday September 12, 2021 after an extended illness at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. All of us in the family are grateful to all the physicians, nurses, and aides who took care of Alexander. Their many kindnesses will always be deeply appreciated. In particular we are grateful for the care Alexander received in his last few days of his life and the many kindnesses given by Dr. Jonathan Richards, nurses Katelyn, Renee, and Francesca, so many others. Alexander began working as a chef when he was sixteen years old, though he had actually started learning to cook when he was only five. He graduated from Culinary Arts Institute of Louisiana and subsequently worked at a number of different restaurants. He won honors at culinary competitions, and was recognized for his innovativeness in various foods. Always a loving child and adult, he loved his family. He was married to a lady who had a daughter from a previous marriage, a lovely girl, Samantha Dandreano. He loved his family. He never had a lasting or significant relationship after his divorce. We, Darrel, Sylvia, Kathleen, Alexander and Frederick were active members of St Aloysius Church and Parish. As a schoolboy at St Aloysius, Alexander was an altar boy and a Cub Scout, when older he was an usher during mass. He had great faith. Alexander loved music and sports. He played soccer from about age 5 throughout high school. He was very personable, had a wonderful smile, and a great laugh. He had a terrific sense of humor and made friends easily. He was always kind and generous to strangers. Alexander was preceded in death by great grandparents Bernard and Elizabeth Joachim Pittenger, grandmother Elizabeth Joachim Pittenger, and great aunt Gretchen Joachim Mortimer. On his mother’s side of the family his great grandparents Alva Eugene and Vera Rasberry Burleigh and former State Legislator the Honorable Henry H. and Margaret Tycer Starns, and grandparents Sanford and Sylvia Burleigh Harrod and Raymond Henry Starns and great aunt Kathleen Delphine Starns. He was also preceded by his sister Sylvia Kathleen King Bimson and step-father and godfather Darrel Lee Mince and godmother Marjorie Tycer Stewart. Alexander is survived by his father James Bernard Pittenger and mother Sylvia Kathleen Starns Mince and brother Frederick Starns and Leah Whitmire Mince, his niece/adopted sister Sylvia Rachael Elizabeth Bimson, and Jaimie Lynn Pittenger, uncles Raymond Henry Starns, Remy Voison and Pam, Roman Ami , Ryan Halcott Starns and aunt Melanie deGnelle Starns Grimmer, great aunt Grace Johnson Burleigh, nephew Jackson Whitmire Mince, nieces Lennon Avery and Rowan Jude Mince. Alexander had many cousins Raymond Henry Starns III, Charlotte and Allison Starns, Martine Grimmer Bernal, Margaret, Sarah, Olivia, and David Grimmer, and Alva Eugene Burleigh III, Michael,Patrick, Stephen, and John Burleigh and their children. Alexander loved his family. However, from when Alexander was a child, he always wanted to “live his own,” and he did. Arrangements are being made by Rabenhorst Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be conducted by Father John Carville at 10 am, Thursday September 16, 2021 at St Aloysius Church, Baton Rouge. Readings and eulogy will be done by Frederick Mince, Roman Starns, and Alva Burleigh.A special thanks is given to Ken Thevenet of St Aloysius.
