

Alfred (Al or Brother) James Bonaventure, Sr., a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Walker, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 19, 2026, at the age of 95. Al was the beloved and devoted husband of Theresa Parent Bonaventure for 73 years; a caring father to Patricia Bonaventure Coppola, Alfred (Skip) Bonaventure, Jr., Larry Bonaventure (Ann), and David Bonaventure (Carla); a loving brother to Michael Bonaventure, Dale Bonaventure, Ronnie Bonaventure, and Verna Bonaventure Robertson; a proud grandfather to Melinda, Stephanie, Andrea, Alex, Meagan, and Ashen; and a cherished great-grandfather to many great-grandchildren.
Al graduated from Istrouma High School, where he was a dedicated member of the band and played the trumpet. After graduation, he owned and operated an Exxon gas station and spent over 40 years playing in the Charlie Bonaventure Orchestra alongside his brother, Charles ("Pie") Bonaventure.
Al was an avid fisherman who loved sharing his passion with his children.
Boating and fishing became traditions that were passed down through generations of the Bonaventure family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyriac and Noelie Samson Bonaventure; his brother, Charles ("Pie") Bonaventure; and his granddaughter, Stephanie Gulino.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Mission of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 29589 S. Poplar St., Livingston, LA at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time.
The Bonaventure family extends their sincere gratitude to the nurses and aids of Heart of Hospice for the compassionate care they provided. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Heart of Hospice.
