A native of Baton Rouge and resident of Denham Springs and LA War Veterans Home went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the age of 86. He was born on July 6, 1927 to Allen W. Bates, Sr. and Marie Cazes Bates. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Juanita Browning Bates; son, Michael Allen Bates and wife, Lisa Davis Bates; daughter, Melody Bates Martrain and husband, Louis John “Chip” Martrain, Jr.; grandchildren, Travis Wayne Bates, Sarah Michelle Bates Camp and husband, Ryan, Louis John “Beau” Martrain III and Marshall Winfield Bates Martrain; four great grandsons, Adam Cade Bates, Brayden Wrigley Camp, Easton Bates Martrain, and Kolston Ryan Camp; sister, Evelyn Bates Paine; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen W. Bates, Sr. and Marie Cazes Bates; grandson, Michael Adams Bates; and sister, Inez Bates Whitehead. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and retired early from Allied Chemical with 24 years of service to pursue his desire to build subdivisions in East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parishes. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at LA War Veterans Home, Cardinal Hospice, and family and friends for prayers and support throughout his long hard battle with Alzheimer’s. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 12 PM until funeral service at 4 PM conducted by Rev. Paul Pearson. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Travis Bates, Beau Martrain, Marshall Martrain, Ryan Camp, Brent Browning, and Ken Browning. Honorary pallbearers will be Archie Browning, Gary Bond, and Walter Paine, Sr.
