

"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1. She was a retired marketing consultant (insurance achievement) and a native and resident of Baton Rouge. She died at 12:32 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at the age of 68 after a long battle with lymphoma. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, Aug. 4, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at noon, with the Rev. Michael Collins, celebrant. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by her daughter, Donna Lynn Barthel-Jones and husband Robert D. Jones III; sons, Ken Alan Barthel and wife Susan Smith Barthel, and David Wayne Barthel; sister, Marian L. Gulino and husband John; grandchildren, Nicole Nunez and husband Jonathan, Kendra Barthel and Ashleigh Jones; nieces and nephews, Darren, Kristie, Savannah and Michael Esteve, Stacey Lee Esteve and Brian, Claire and Noah Esteve; father of her children, Albert D. Barthel; and dear friend who was like her daughter, Jena Kyle Morales. Preceded in death by her parents, Peter N. and Josephine Messina Lombardo. Pallbearers will be Darren Esteve, Brian Esteve, Jonathan Nunez, Robert Jeansonne, Donald Barthel Jr. and Joseph Crifasi. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. David Hanson and Russell "Butch" Lombardo. She enjoyed spending time with family and sharing her faith and strength with others.
