Virgets, Anke Korving passed away at 1:23 a.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, an end to a spirited life of love, laughter, and happiness. Anke's life began on October 2, 1941 in the city of Semarang, Indonesia. While in Indonesia, Anke and her family spent time in captivity after Japan invaded Indonesia during World War II. It can be said that these formative years spent in harsh prison camp conditions fueled Anke's zeal and passion for life. Anke's family soon returned to their home in the Netherlands where she spent her childhood. As fate would have it, Anke caught the eye of Baton Rouge, Louisiana native Tommy Virgets while working as a stewardess for the Royal Dutch Airlines. They were married on March 30, 1968, and many have been blessed to witness the love they shared over the past 45 years, especially their three beautiful daughters, Nicoline, Michelle, and Colette. After living in the Netherlands and Rome, Italy, Tommy and Anke moved to Baton Rouge to raise their family. Anke embraced the culture of South Louisiana and could prepare Creole dishes that would rival any top chef. Not only did Anke eagerly accept the culture of her new home, she grew to love and cherish the values and ideals of the United States so much that she became a proud American citizen on April 23, 2007. With her children grown, she and Tommy retired to their dream home on the Diversion Canal in St. Amant, Louisiana. Days spent chasing children were replaced with days entertaining on the canal and chasing redfish and speckled trout around the marshes and the coastline of Grand Isle. Anke's love for her family: Danny, Nicoline, Clay, and Holland Donaldson of Kingwood, Texas, Tom, Michelle, Jeffrey, and Robert Adair of Kingwood, Texas, and Johnny, Colette, Thomas, William, and Louis Weber of Diamondhead, Mississippi was like no other. Anke taught us how to live with an appreciation for all of God's gifts with love, grace, and courage. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home at 825 Government Street in Baton Rouge on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. Service will follow at 10:00 A.M. at Rabenhorst.
