
A retired teacher/librarian and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at 10:35 a.m. She was 90 and a native of Deerford. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East on Tuesday, Oct. 12, was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Wednesday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Gardens. Survived by her sisters, Lynda Gustafsson and husband Donald Gustafsson, and Maurie Anderson; brothers, Joseph F. Millican and wife Bettye Millican; 13 close nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Libbie Millican Treloar. Preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Hunt Millican and Joseph Franklin Millican; and brothers, Thomas William Millican and Alton Tucker Millican. Pallbearers will be Franklin Millican, Samuel Alton Millican, Marc Millican, Lars Gustafsson, Russell Kent, David Dousay, Benjamin Dart and Anderson Dart. She was a graduate of Pride High School and had double master's degrees from LSU, where she served as a member of the Library School faculty. She retired from East Baton Rouge Parish school system with 46 years of service, having taught at Glasgow Middle, Pride High and Lee High schools. At Lee High School, she established the library and served as librarian until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Deerford United Methodist Church and at the time of her death their oldest member. She was active in all phases of church activities including serving as Sunday school teacher and board member as well as the United Methodist Women. Academic organization memberships include Mu Sigma Rho, charter member of Alpha Eta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma International, Louisiana Retired Teacher Organizations, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Iota Chapter of Beta Phi Mu and Louisiana Library Association. She was also a longtime member with cherished friends in the ARUW Baton Rouge Morning Branch.
