
Anthony Earl "Duggie" Duggan Jr. died Saturday, June 9, 2007, after a prolonged battle with cancer. The longtime Baton Rouge resident was 66. He was the founder of Duggan's Seafood of Jackson, Miss. He took great joy in sharing his love of gourmet cuisine. This inspired him to share his knowledge of Louisiana cooking with others at the Everyday Gourmet Cooking School in Jackson. He was the recipient of many awards for his seafood creations, especially his gumbo. Mr. Duggan was a U.S. Army veteran and was stationed in Tehran, Iran. While serving in the Army, Mr. Duggan's duties included that of an adviser to the Iranian army as well as to the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Baton Rouge, where he was a member of Local 198, the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters, until he founded Duggan's Seafood in 1973. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Road, Greenwell Springs, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Frank Bass, celebrant. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Earl Duggan Sr.; and his beloved son, Shannon Blaine Duggan. A devoted husband, son and father, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Laura Duggan (nee Melancon); mother, Ruth Margaritte Duggan (nee Ladnier); daughter and son-in-law, MiMi and Lawrence M. Hammond of Baltimore; and son and granddaughter, Travis and Taylor Blaine Duggan of Albuquerque, N.M. Pallbearers will be Alvin Madere, Chad Robert, Eddie Williams, Gayle Robert, James "Goose" Carroll, Flynn Strickland, Vance Ventable and John Lester. Honorary pallbearers are Hermes Ladnier, Dale Temple, Ron Strickland, Joe Moss, Carl Marks and Basil Alexander Jr.
