Barbara Blanchard Jenkins

Bobbye Jenkins, native & life-long resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the age of 84. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother, there was nothing that Bobbye enjoyed more than being surrounded by family. Countless summer days were spent together at her pool & she even created a neighborhood Mardi Gras parade for the grandkids to enjoy when they were young. She was a fabulous cook, specializing in French toast, roast, rice, & gravy, and icecream "midnight snacks". A former teacher, Bobbye was an avid reader and passed that passion along to her children & grandchildren. She also enjoyed a good game of tennis with friends in her younger years, and transferred that competitive energy into becoming a formidable bridge player in her later years. But above all else, Bobbye was a giver. Her mindset was always focused on how to serve others…selflessly and anonymously. A role model to all, her family light-heartedly referred to her as "The Oracle" due to her infinite wisdom. In grief, we are reminded to recite Bobbye's favorite prayer: "Dear God, it's me. You know. Amen." Bobbye is survived by her husband of 62 years, James "Jimmy" Jenkins, Jr.; four children: son James "Jim" Jenkins, III & wife Tammy, daughter Janet Jenkins, daughter Tracy Ducote & husband Raymond, and daughter Blair Kelly & husband Tim; six grandchildren: granddaughter Kelly Schneider & husband Brandon, grandson James "Jimmy" Jenkins, IV & wife Brittany, granddaughter Allison Elkins & husband Ian, granddaughter Katie Schneider & husband Nathan, granddaughter Beatty Arnold & husband Jeff, and granddaughter Selby Kean; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Gail Langridge & husband Owen. She is preceded in death by her parents, Beatty & Daisy Blanchard; sister Janette D'Alessandro; and granddaughter Anna Jenkins. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 10:00am-12:00pm until funeral service at 12:00pm with Rev. Chris Andrews officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
