

Born May 2, 1931, in Trinity, Texas, she was called to our Father after a long bout with lupus and its complications on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, D.O. and Sue Atkinson, who were of Baton Rouge. She is survived by her husband, Howard Bolton; brother, Charles Atkinson and wife Dwana; a son, Howard "Tad" Jr. and wife Donna Songy Bolton; daughter, Pamela Sue Bolton Lane and husband Richard Lane; three grandsons, Taylor Bolton, Andrew Bolton and Kevin Bolton; three granddaughters, Nealey Lane, Candace Lane and Lauren Lane; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of first cousins. Betty graduated from theUniversityHigh Schoolin 1948 and attendedBaton RougeBusinessSchooland subsequently, worked as a secretary for the District Attorney's Office until she married in June 1951. She worked as a legal secretary in New Orleansuntil Howard finished pharmacy school atLoyolaUniversityin 1952. She and Howard enjoyed a stint in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in San Antonio,Harlingen, Texas,Montgomery, Ala., and Lake Charles, where Tad and Pam were born. In February 1962, Betty and Howard opened Bolton Pharmacy, where Betty was the secretary-treasurer, vice president, buyer and boss until she retired with 30 years of service in 1992. Subsequently, for the next few years, she ran Grape Vine Antiques. Betty was a true, gracious and loving Southern lady who loved and enjoyed all of her family and many lifelong friends. She was a longtime member of theFirstUnitedMethodistChurchand Covenant Sunday school class. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., was on Thursday, March 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation at First United Methodist Church Parish Hall on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev.
