

A former employee of Southern Bell Telephone and a retired Piccadilly Cafeteria employee, Beverly peacefully passed away at The Care Center on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the age of 74. She was born in Mobile, AL and was a long time resident of Baton Rouge. Beverly was a former resident of New Orleans and Port Allen. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 11 am until memorial services at 1 pm. She is survived by two sons, Rudy Bourgeois of Baton Rouge and Doug Bourgeois and wife Anu of Decatur, GA; sister, Charlotte Hammett Hymel and husband Ted of Baton Rouge; brother, Walter Rodney Hammett, Jr of Louisville, TN; two grandchildren, Devin and Zoe Bourgeois; three nieces, Heather Hymel, Judy Hammett and Michelle Hymel Hinds; and a nephew, Jerry Hammett. Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Walter Rodney Hammett, Sr; mother, Grace Marie Dixon; step-mother, Rhunella Pickins Hammett; sister-in-law, Sharon Hammett; and her dog, Gypsy. Beverly attended Baton Rouge High School and graduated from Port Allen High School. Her family offers special thanks to the staff and residents of The Care Center of Baton Rouge, Dr. Shaista Faruqui and Life Source Hospice of Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to any mental health organization of your choice.
