
Carol Hayward Carney, age 78, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015. Carol was a beautiful, caring lady who enjoyed volunteering, travelling, entertaining, shopping, and visiting with people. Carol Carney grew up in Shawnee, Oklahoma and earned her Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma City University. She went on to earn her Masters Degree from Duke University where she met the love of her life, Frank G. Carney. They married and moved to Morgantown, West Virginia where she worked in Personnel Management for West Virginia University and they had two daughters, Cathy and Karla. As family aged, Frank and Carol moved to Starkville, Mississippi and later to Baton Rouge. Carol retired from LSU as Assistant Dean of Engineering and Director of Engineering Services in 2000. Since retiring, she was an active volunteer in many organizations including University United Methodist Church, Red Cross, Kids Hope, Hope Ministries, and AARP tax preparation. Carol was past Chair of the Church Council at University United Methodist Church, rang hand bells, and was a regular on Daytimers Trips where she served as the photographer. She was on the Red Cross fire response team and was a shelter manager at several locations including Denham Springs during Katrina. Carol enjoyed cooking and hosted parties and meetings for Sunday School Class, the 39ers Book Club, and Knit n Stitch Club. Carol was a past President of PEO Chapter C (Philanthropic Educational Organization). Her travels included: Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and China. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frank G. Carney; her two daughters: Catherine and her husband, Paul Imboden of Niceville, FL and Karla and her husband, Eric Hall of Bloomington, IL; three grandchildren: Emily Imboden, Nicholas Imboden, and Brendan Hall; sister: Cleta and her husband, Dan Sagramoso; and brother: Lee and his wife, Vicki Hayward. Visitation is Thursday, October 15th from 5pm to 7pm at Rabenhorst at 825 Government and Friday 9am to 11:00 at University United Methodist Church. Memorial Service is Friday, October 16th at 11am at University United Methodist Church on Dalrymple with a reception to follow.
